Craig Morris Blog

Craig Morris took over from the legendary Adolph “Bud” Herseth as principal trumpet of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in 2001.  Bud Herseth had been principal trumpet since 1948 (53 years !!) so this was a somewhat hard act to follow. This is a pointer to his blog livmusic.com which is a fascinating glimpse into the working life of a top musician. It contains a host of invaluable information on practise techniques, performance and repertoire. Typical of the kind of practical insight into preparing for performance is his post on having to perform both Brandenburg 2 and Stravinsky’s Soldier’s Tale in five back to back concerts. Graig left the CSO in 2003 to persue a solo career. He was succeeded by Chris Martin who was kind enough to make some complimentary comments about our CD “Music for Metal Instruments”. This, by the way followed an encounter with Paul Harris and Paul Tomlinson following a CSO Brass Ensemble concert in Chicago they were fortunate enough to attend, so whether any duress was involved or not I couldn’t possibly say.
